This workshop is designed to empower parents of autistic children with the knowledge and tools they need to effectively navigate the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process.

Who should attend: Parents, guardians, and caregivers of autistic children who are currently in or preparing to enter the special education system. This workshop is also beneficial for those seeking to better understand their rights and advocate for their child's educational needs.

    What you'll learn:
    - Understanding the IEP: Learn what an IEP is, its purpose, and the legal framework behind it.
    - Your Rights and Responsibilities: Discover your rights as a parent in the IEP process and how to effectively participate in meetings.
    - Setting Meaningful Goals: Learn how to collaborate with the IEP team to set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals for your child.
    - Advocating for Your Child: Gain practical strategies for advocating for your child's needs and ensuring their IEP reflects their unique strengths and challenges.
    - Resolving Disputes: Understand the procedures for resolving disagreements with the school district and accessing mediation or other dispute resolution options.

Format: This is an interactive workshop with presentations, group discussions, and Q&A sessions. Participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences and learn from one another.

Special Notes: This workshop is free and family-friendly. We encourage parents to attend together. A recording of the workshop will be available for one week after the event for those who cannot attend live.
