Recent research suggests that both ABA and ESDM can lead to significant improvements for autistic children. A 2025 study in *Frontiers in Pediatrics* found that while both interventions improved cognitive, language, social, and motor skills, ESDM showed stronger gains in social reciprocity, while ABA excelled in gross motor skills.
For children starting ESDM early (18-30 months), a 2014 study showed that gains in IQ, adaptive behavior, and symptom severity were maintained at age 6, even with fewer services needed.
It really highlights the importance of early intervention and tailoring the approach to your child's specific needs.
