I wanted to add that Stanford Medicine is using attention, motor behavior, and autonomic regulation to identify biomarkers in high-risk infants even before typical behavioral symptoms emerge. Parent-mediated Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions (NDBIs) are also being adapted for very young infants, focusing on integrating parent self-regulation into home-based models.

A recent study compared the long-term progress of autistic children receiving ABA therapy versus ESDM intervention. Learn what the researchers found and what it might mean for your family.

It's great you're looking into the long-term outcomes of ABA and ESDM! Research shows both therapies can be really effective, especially when started early (between 12-48 months).

One study showed that children who started ESDM before 30 months maintained improvements in autism symptoms and adaptive behavior at age 6, and needed less ongoing intervention. Also, toddlers receiving ESDM gained about 18 IQ points!

ABA can also lead to substantial IQ gains (20+ points in some cases) and behavioral improvements. While both therapies outperform standard care, ESDM may have an edge in social communication, while ABA excels in structured skills. A recent study even found ESDM ahead in social reciprocity and ABA in gross motor skills after 6 months!
